Cars
May 27th, 2007Saturday saw myself, Wendi and Dennis meandering around various car dealerships in 90 degree scorching heat. Our present car (an old Saturn with 120,000 miles) is on the verge of exploding. An engine that dies after 2 minutes of freeway driving and also vehemently opposed to hills. The breaks require a pre-engagement prayer to ensure any degree of slowing; a full stop requires divine intervention.
After much umming and ahhing we have finally decided on buying a Lexus. Audi’s went out of the window for their ultra dodgy reliability; the same for Jaguars. Camrys/accords/civics too middle aged family car. Avalons, BMWs, Mercs, Mazdas, Infinitis, one by one all knocked out of contention.
By mid afternoon we had hit upon a great deal at the main Lexus dealership only to find out (shortly before going on a test drive) the car had in fact been moved across town earlier in the day and already sold. Curses! A brief stop home for rest and food brought up a Lexus ES 300 in Provo (40 miles away). A quick call to the dealer and we jumped in the car and headed on over.
The car was in mint condition, 2003 with only 38K miles and not a single scratch or mark. We drove it around the neighbour and the difference in ride compared to our present ramshackle Saturn was revelatory.
Tomorrow we are going to try and buy it. One of the owners of the dealership has apparently made some kind of half-agreement with a “doctor friend” for the car. The other owner we spoke to has said the car is ours. Whether this is some kind of salesman ploy to ramp the price up were not sure. But we aren’t budging on the price we agreed at any rate. Heres hoping come tomorrow we are driving our Lexus:
